(Shonto, Arizona - 12.39 a.m. local time)
After almost one day driving through New Mexico, I arrived safely at 2 a.m. at Chips house in Shonto, AZ. It was a long scenic journey via Pueblo,Colorado to Santa Fe, New Mexico and finally Kayenta, Arizona. I have spent the first afternoon with Chip driving up to White Mesa for our interview and then we visited his son Jamal, who lives in Page with his mom.
It was a wonderful day and we talked about Obama and his message of hope. Especially, after a personal tour of Chips sticker campaign in a conservative area,(where most of the people vote Republican) it was inspiring to hear stories from 12 year old Jamal. He talked about how proudly he was wearing his new Obama T-shirt in school after one kid had a McCain shirt for show off. I guess in a town like Page, spreading an Obama sign becomes somehow an act of civil defiance.

So yesterday I focused my filming entirely on the Shonto surroundings and I interviewed Betty, a co-worker of Chip at the Inscription House health clinic . She is a passionate Obama supporter and told me that Obama should come out here to the reservation and win more local supporters. I told her that Michelle is in Santa Fe on Thursday, but she said it’s a bit too far from here...
