(Berlin, Germany - 9.30 local time)
I decided to publish Obama's self-reflections on the trip to Europe (Journalists of Color, Unity Convention) on Sunday in Chicago. Since Obama speaks about the political impact and people's awareness, I think his analyses is in tune with what young people worldwide feel. After all this is a generation X and Y election year. This generation will either support him or not. They grew up with a diet of Yo!MTV Raps! and techno sounds of Berlin's "Love Parade". Of course young Germans can't vote for him, but his new school of Chicago liberals from Hyde Park has orchestrated sexy images to be marketed like the rhymes of an MC on the globe of planet hip-hopolitricks...
Although I have no political ambitions, sometimes seeing boring faces of our own German politicians makes me wanna run for office too... I think it would be impossible for any German politician to drwa such numbers to a rally - they are out of touch with two crucial generations of voters. Alienation of politics in Europe is standard fare. Fore those who fin it interesting to ponder on facts how Obama got up there throughout the Chicago years, I found some great insights online on my favorite website:
Was his a calculated move to settle in Chicago and run for Senate first an then go on to fight for Washington= After all Chicago has a long history of black civil rights activism.
Was it fate, tenacity or Machiavellian strategy that put him through the relatively short period to run for office?
One thing for sure - after an identity crisis as "skinny black kid" from Hawaii, Obama was hungry for political power and influence. I am too overwhelmed by all the little details and leave this task to an expert (who must have researched for years to write this excellent article). One thing is clear: Obama has style, he thinks big and talks about the questions of our time. So for those who love to read stuff that is paying attention to detail, check out: http://www.newyorker.com/reporting/2008/07/21/080721fa_fact_lizza?printable=true
If you prefer the spoken words this time, I put up extracts frim the interview of Juan Gonzales with Ryan Lizza. It's insightful and fun to track his roots! So to all you German politicians out there: start ro re-engage and listen to folks.
