A Historic Speech in Philadelphia
Wednesday, March 19, 2008
(Berlin, Germany - 1.30 a.m local time)
A couple of hours ago, I listened to the historic speech that Obama gave about race & politics on CNN. Triggered by concerns and media accusations, he transformed the remarks surrounding Rev. Wright in an opportunity to speak about all kinds of issues - a true presidential candidate. Nobody ever before dared to go conquer the territory he covered with his speech.
A white desert filled with land mines and all sorts of booby traps. Thank you!

It seems Americans have a chance to redeem their slavery past for the first time in public. With every incident that plays out against Obama in this election campaign, and rather then pretending this country does alright -- he manages a great open debate after a collective white amnesia of 400 years.
No speech, no campaign can deliver a healing. But it is a great start that allows millions of people around the world, to get hooked on the experiment of American democracy again.
Although Obama’s speech is largely overshadowed and controlled by the media who pays attention to the financial crisis, he shouts out truth in the desert once and for all. I wonder what German media will comment of it. Do I really care what they do?
Here is an economic reality check that Mr. Bloomberg has ready for you:

Biggest Gain Ever
Lehman had its steepest advance ever as the company assured investors it will avoid the fate of Bear Stearns Cos., which ran out of cash last week and was forced to sell itself to JPMorgan Chase & Co. for a 93 percent discount. (M.Patterson)
I wonder who is making money here tonight?
