Email support from Texas

(Berlin, Germany - 3 p.m. local time)
I got an email from Annemarie that I met last month and who canvasses on the front lines in San Antonio, Texas. This picture (notice the sign?) was taken inside my rental car - during our interview in Des Moines, Iowa outside the Obama phone bank HQ. That day it was -14 celcius outside, but we had a jolly good time talking about the heat of change in America.
Now Annemarie has sent me a quick report that I want to share here with those who have been following my travels from day one. She wrote me:
Sorry for the delayed response. No real report, just did some canvassing in a republican neighborhood today - got a few supporters. What I got from the republicans is that most would prefer to see Barack win over Hillary, the thing about that is that Barack would win over John Mc Cain - so I'm not really sure about their strategy. However, we're trucking along in Texas as you already know. I think it looks really good for Barack - even if he doesn't win, he has the opportunity to win the delegates needed to move him forward.
I will send you a more detailed report of what’s happening when I have more time and I'll get some pictures to you. Have not even opened my camera, let alone take a picture.
I can tell you that most of the volunteers from the SF office are here in Corpus Christi (about 50). San Antonio (got 125) from various areas.
I flew into San Antonio which is about a 2 hour drive from Corpus Christi and while waiting for my pick up, I meet a woman who was from NYC, turns out she was also volunteering for the campaign (a SEIU worker).
Will write again soon.
I find it amazing to have met so many incredible, enthusiastic volunteers around my journey. If one thing has shifted in the last month in this country, it’s certainly peoples believe in change and the hope in creating a better future for themselves. If only this momentum stays after the election 2008 is over, then I believe this is more then any other country of that size has to offer our world history at the moment. People power!
Being from the East and knowing how Russians tick, I find it scary but not unexpected to see what is going on in Russia’s fraudulent election...Exactly the opposite!
Two opposing belief systems are coming into full force again after Perestroika and Glasnost established hope in the Eastern block 20 years ago...
Well, I have made an appointment with the Federal Department to watch my Stasi report inside the library after Easter. I need some real Obama Easter eggs first (I am sure they send them from Texas) to get in balance - before I can deal with the ghosts from my totalitarian past.
