A night before the big day

(Des Moines, Iowa - 8 a.m. local time)
I have just landed and fetched my luggage. As I was trying to negotiate my way to get my car prior to my reservation time at 11 a.m. your typical redneck middle aged service agent barked at me in military precision that he will charge me an extra day if I want to get my car 2 hours early. Well, I was prepared for the chilling minus 16 Celsius outside, but not my first encounter with a brick head.
I know, I know he is just following his orders. But I suddenly doubt that Obama can take this state. I think Hilary with her calculating charm is much more suited here. I would be glad if Obama wins, but he might just be second choice after Hilary for those who dare to hope.
I decided to not give this man power over my day and chilled out in the airport, eating strange food (croissant filled with fried egg) and surfing the local news on a blog that says:
Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama told reporters who traveled with him today that he’s not paying attention to polls.
“I haven’t been paying too much attention to polls at this point,” Obama said in response to a question about a poll from The Des Moines Register that indicates he is leading. “It’s very hard to read what’s going on except for the fact that we’ve got these great crowds with unbelievable energy.”
Obama noted that man undecided voters continue to attend his events, which he said is exciting because “it gives me a chance to persuade them one last time.”
“Now I think its going to come down to who gets their supporters out and I’ll put my money on my organization. It’s as good, and as dedicated and as intense as I’ve ever seen,” Obama said.
Obama was also asked how he can be confident that Iowans won’t change their minds.
“All I can be confident about is what we can control, which is delivering a message of change, making sure that were working hard and then seeing what happens,” he responded.
Obama is a wise leader and that will not go away, even if he is not taking this state, people will remember a remarkable politician.
I will contact Anne Marie from the Northern California Obama office and see what her plans are for today. As soon as I get the car I will be free to do whatever I want.
I did not sleep on the plane and I’m getting tired now. It turns out Anne Marie makes phone calls to undecided Caucus voters during the day. I will drive to the office and take some shots and interview her. After that I need to get some sleep to be ready for the night showdown with an Obama rally in town.
